Federal policy expert Carol McDaid has more than 25 years of legislative experience, having worked with leading drug and alcohol treatment centers, addiction physicians, prevention and consumer organizations, and mental health consumer and provider organizations to refine public policy addressing addiction and mental health. McDaid will provide an overview of federal policy, including the latest updates and headlines. The session will focus on the intense pressure on for-profit facilities by the media, Google, and the federal government. She will examine questions such as, while there is scrutiny on for-profit addiction treatment facilities, is the industry doing enough to raise the important role that good actors in substance use disorder programs are playing to drive evidence based practice care? How does this field counter these charges on the industry in both political and media worlds? McDaid will address how the field and providers should respond.
