Developing a National Treatment Center Rating System: The Growing Importance of Quality Measurement

Both for-profit and not-for-profit addiction treatment facilities lack a standard measurement system to identify high-quality providers across multiple settings of care. Shatterproof, a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of addiction treatment, is spearheading a two-year pilot program to track and bring transparency to the quality of addiction treatment facilities. This effort is in partnership with national addiction treatment experts, government agencies in five states, and payers—including Anthem, Beacon Health Options, Cigna, Magellan, and UnitedHealth. As part of this process, Shatterproof is developing a rating system for addiction treatment programs to cut through the confusion for families and deliver trustworthy, standardized information about the levels of care offered at all types of treatment centers, as well as insight into the quality of care offered. The system will be easy-to-use and free for consumers to access. Attendees at this session will learn more about this project and how to be involved, hear state and payer perspectives on measuring quality in addiction treatment, will be updated on the latest set of quality measures being used in the pilot program, and will benefit from understanding how these metrics can be used by practices to target their own QI efforts.
